Bus tour to strengthen tribal relations, support SDSU students

South Dakota State University faculty and staff are touring South Dakota’s tribal communities this spring to better understand and support current and future American Indian students on campus. SDSU’s Wokini Initiative has partnered with Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies to create the professional development training series for SDSU faculty and staff. It aims to foster a culturally responsive and supportive campus environment for American Indian students to increase their retention and graduation rates.

Regents, DOE authorize new elementary, special education programs at SDSU

The South Dakota Board of Regents approved requests by South Dakota State University on May 9 to add two new academic programs in elementary education and special education. The programs were then approved by the South Dakota Department of Education, May 22 so they may officially launch next fall.

SDSU celebrates patent, program that encourages innovation

South Dakota State University’s Rich Normality Design Collaborative (RNDC), a multiprogram collaboration at the university, celebrated a patent-signing event on campus April 19. The patent was issued in April 2022 for a connector device that promotes children’s building skills, and the event was used to highlight RNDC’s evolution at State and how the initiative helps build a pipeline of creative and innovative thinkers.

Freshman chosen for Davis-Bahcall Scholars Program

Connor Matthies, a freshman mechanical engineering/computer science double major from Hartford, is one of eight students selected statewide to be a Davis-Bahcall Scholar at the Sanford Underground Research Lab in Lead this summer.

Engineering students at South Dakota State University pedaled their way to a third-place finish in the national e-Human Powered Vehicle Challenge at Liberty University, Forest, Virginia. The contest is sponsored by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and attracted 15 teams.

Cancer research to be bearer of good news

McCormick, a distinguished professor of tumor biology and cancer research at the Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of California, San Francisco, will deliver the 10th annual Francis Miller Public Lecture in Cancer Research at 7 p.m. in Bailey Rotunda F, 1020 Campanile Ave., on the South Dakota State University campus. It is sponsored by the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions.
