The South Dakota State University School of Performing Arts will host a series of piano performances over the next week, with an award-winning musician sharing his talent with students and the public.

Pianist Michael Seregow, assistant teaching professor of music at Ball State University, will visit campus Thursday, March 20, to present a solo recital titled, “A Changing World: Maurice Ravel and His Contemporaries.” The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Founders Recital Hall of the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m.

Seregow is a native of the Pacific Northwest and enjoys a multifaceted career as a performer, teacher and recording artist.

“Winner of The American Prize in chamber music performance, a national competition in the performing arts, Seregow maintains an active performance career, performing a wide-ranging selection of repertoire spanning from the late renaissance through works by composers of today,” Seregow’s website says. “A musician of uncommon versatility, he has also received formal training in a variety of keyboard instruments other than piano including harpsichord, fortepiano and organ, in addition to studies in jazz piano, basso continuo, historical performance practice and composition.”

On Friday, March 21, SDSU students will receive valuable live performance tips in masterclasses hosted by Seregow from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

“SDSU pianists are excited to benefit from the unique perspective and fresh ears that a visiting artist provides,” said Mark Stevens, assistant professor of piano at SDSU. “The opportunity for us to work with a musician of Dr. Seregow’s caliber is hugely beneficial as we prepare for our annual studio recital, and his recital program promises to be thrilling from start to finish.”

The public is invited back to Founders Recital Hall on Monday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m. for the annual piano recital presented by the SDSU piano studio. The concert is free and open to the public.
