The 50th season of South Dakota State University’s Prairie Repertory Theatre takes the stage in June. New this season, all performances will be held at Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center.

One new item this year is the PRT Flex Pass subscription ticket. Each pass, which saves one $12 per pass when compared to buying individual tickets, is good for one ticket to each production this season. The pass also allows patrons the flexibility to select performance times and desired seats at the time of purchase or a later date.

“SDSU’s Prairie Repertory Theatre’s 2021 season celebrates a half-century of outstanding entertainment and training for young theatre artists. Please join us all season to celebrate 50 years. The entire PRT 2021 season will be performed in the beautiful Oscar Larson Theatre in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center,” said J.D. Ackman, PRT’s artistic/managing director and a professor and director of theatre with SDSU’s School of Performing Arts. “PRT is planning to celebrate the beginning of the second 50 years in the summer of 2022 with special events throughout the season.”

The 2021 season lineup contains:

  • “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged),” by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield. Shows will be held June 9-11 at 7:30 p.m. and June 12 at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
  • “Quilters,” by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek. Performances for this musical will be June 16-18 at 7:30 p.m. and June 19 at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
  • The Pulitzer Prize-winning “The Gin Game,” by D.L. Coburn runs June 23-25 at 7:30 p.m. and June 26 at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
  • “Little Shop of Horrors,” closes the season with performances June 30-July 2 at 7:30 p.m. and July 3 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. The book and lyrics are by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken.

To ensure the safety of patrons and the company, PRT 2021 will conform to SDSU’s COVID-19 protocols. All available seating at performances will be socially distanced and public spaces will be sanitized regularly. PRT believes the health and safety of our community are of critical importance and will take all necessary measures to ensure everyone’s safety.
