SDSU College of Nursing ranked among nation's best for value

South Dakota State University’s College of Nursing was recently ranked 13th in College Factual’s 2021 Best Value Nursing Schools. SDSU is ranked in the top 5% of the country for nursing students seeking a value bachelor’s degree.

“Our Best Nursing Colleges for the Money Rankings were designed to help nursing students choose a quality and affordable undergraduate program. South Dakota State has improved its ranking by nine positions since our last year's ranking, showing its commitment to helping students launch their nursing careers with a high-value degree,” said Bill Phelan, CEO and co-founder of College Factual.

The best value rankings are a subset of College Factual's overall Best Colleges for the Money rankings and are designed to help highlight colleges that deliver a great bang for the educational buck. For each major, the overall rankings are compiled and then limited to just those schools offering that particular major.

To determine the average cost, College Factual looked at total expenses—such as tuition, fees, room and board, books and other related expenses—and then subtracted the average financial award a student receives.

“We are proud to receive this recognition of the value of a nursing education provided at SDSU. These rankings provide validation of the high level of quality and value we are able to provide our students,” said Mary Anne Krogh ’85/’11 Ph.D., the college’s dean.

South Dakota State uses the CareSpan platform in its nursing classrooms in Brookings, Rapid City and Sioux Falls. This partnership is the first of its kind, and SDSU is the only college of nursing currently using it for instructing students.

Earlier this year, the college was ranked No. 19 by Best Nursing Programs in its Best Second-degree Nursing Programs category and No. 41 by for Best Online M.S.N. Degree Programs.

Overall, SDSU ranked in the nation’s top 130 schools in graduating bachelor’s degree students. It was also ranked in the top 85 for students graduating with doctoral degrees in nursing in 2019, according to College Factual.
