Zippia has ranked South Dakota State University as the best total package college in South Dakota.
“South Dakota State's affordable cost, student outcomes and good job prospects earned the university its top spot,” said Zippia’s Kathy Morris, who serves as its head of content.
Using the most recent College Scorecard Data released by the U.S. Department of Education, Zippia ranked all colleges in each state from best to worst with the following determining factors:

“This ranking reflects our university’s deep commitment to student success and access to a high-quality, yet affordable education,” said Dennis Hedge, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Preparing our graduates to contribute to the workforce of the state and nation is at the core of our mission. We take great pride in preparing our students for personally and professionally rewarding careers.”
For debt, this number is the median, federal loan debt accumulated by all students who graduate with a degree. SDSU’s number was $24,250.
The average annual cost of attendance includes tuition and fees, books and supplies, and living expenses. SDSU’s cost is $22,609.
Job prospects and earnings both examine median earnings and employment 10 years after enrollment, to give students adequate time to finish their degree (and subsequent post-bachelor’s education) and establish themselves in the workforce. SDSU’s figure was $50,200.
