Lynn Sargeant, dean of South Dakota State University’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, has announced the hiring of Lynn Von Eschen as director of the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center following a national search. Von Eschen will start work in his position Monday.
As director of the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center, Von Eschen will oversee the day-to-day operations of the facility, provide strategic leadership, develop marketing and communication plans, and collaborate with campus and community partners to fully realize the center’s potential. He will also work in partnership with David Reynolds, director of the SDSU School of Performing Arts, to curate a shared artistic vision for musical and theatrical performances.
“Lynn’s hiring is an exciting step forward for the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center and SDSU,” Sargeant said. “His experience managing complex and high-profile arts institutions will ensure we can meet the expectations of our community for not just high-quality performances, but also an outstanding audience experience. I look forward to working with Lynn and David to ensure SDSU’s preeminence as a center for the arts in our region.”
Von Eschen brings a wealth of experience and professional success to the position, having previously served as executive director for the Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts in Minneapolis and as vice president and general manager for the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul, Minnesota, among other positions.
He holds a B.A. in speech, communications and theater from SDSU and a Master of Fine Arts in arts management from the University of Iowa.
