South Dakota State University has been ranked among the 50 best affordable online bachelor's in early childhood education degree programs for 2020 by Affordable Schools.

South Dakota State University was ranked 11th.

This ranking was created using the National Center for Education Statistics' College Navigator database. The 50 best affordable online bachelor's degrees in early childhood education were selected and ranked based on average cost of attendance, student-to-faculty ratio, and graduation rate.

South Dakota State University was labeled the 11th-most affordable college for early childhood education degree studies online with an $8,764 in-state rate. On Desire2Learn, the Department of Teaching, Learning and Leadership awards an economical, online early education and care bachelor’s degree. in the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (IDEA) for individuals who work with children and families with 30 or more credits at GPAs above 2.5.

The 120-credit, Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation accredited sequence offers all 300-level major courses like Working with Families and The Science of Learning online. Jackrabbits can also volunteer with Boys & Girls Club, join the East Central Association for the Education of Young Children Chapter and pursue the human sciences master's degree.
