For individuals looking to enter the field, Discoverdatascience.org ranked South Dakota State University No. 1 for the nation’s most affordable master’s program in data science.
Discoverdatascience.org reviewed tuition costs from more than 75 schools to determine the list so the ranking speaks to the efforts to deliver a value-oriented graduate program.
“I’m proud our Department of Mathematics and Statistics is able to offer a master’s in data science program that is professionally relevant and valuable, highly effective, and at the same time, the most affordable in the nation,” said Kurt Cogswell, who leads the department. “With data science being the hottest career field in the nation for several years, this program has an important role to play in the economic development of our state and region.“
A master’s degree in data science is an interdisciplinary degree program designed to prepare students for a data-focused career. The coursework focus is on statistics, mathematics and computer science.
The data was compiled by taking the number of credits for all data science master’s degree programs in the United States and multiplying the cost per credit; giving the total cost of the tuition of each program, fees and housing were excluded for this exercise. This calculation was done for all on-campus master's degree data science accredited programs and tallied.
