U.S. News ranks four programs

U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in education rankings, announced the 2020 Best Online Programs rankings for anyone interested in furthering their education. Four South Dakota State University online programs were ranked.

The rankings evaluated more than 1,600 distance education bachelor's and master's degree programs. The master's programs include seven disciplines, such as nursing, business and engineering.

“South Dakota State University prides itself on its high-quality online programs that allow students the flexibility to complete their degree wherever they may be,” said Lindsey Hamlin, director of Continuing and Distance Education at SDSU.

Only regionally accredited institutions whose programs are offered mostly or entirely online were evaluated.

SDSU was:

  • 70 (tie) in Best Online Master's in Engineering Programs;
  • 122 (tie) in Best Online Master's in Nursing Programs;
  • 134 (tie) in Best Online Master's in Education Programs; and
  • 208 (tie) in Best Online Bachelor's Programs

According to U.S. News, online learning is integral to all types of education, including higher education, and that consumers are hungry for information related to online degrees. In its ninth year of collecting data from distance education master's and bachelor's degree completion programs, U.S. News has been able to expand the range and depth of the information.

For the 2020 edition, U.S. News assessed more than 1,600 online degree programs, an all-time high. The rankings measure overall academic quality and are across varying disciplines such as business and nursing. New this year, it ranked 242 programs across 18 more specialized focuses like MBA finance and nursing family practice. It also once again included the best academic programs for military veterans and active service members ranking.
