The South Dakota State University Police Department will hold its active threat training Aug. 7 in the Avera Health and Science Center on campus.
The training is scheduled to run from 5 to 11 p.m. and will include law enforcement personnel from the Brookings Police Department, the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
UPD has been conducting active threat response trainings on campus since 2005. In addition, UPD attends or assists instructing active threat response trainings held in the city and county of Brookings several times each year.
As with previous trainings, expect to see numerous law enforcement personnel on campus. Signs will be posted that a training session is taking place.
UPD is the only university police department in Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming to have earned accreditation by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators.
