Lambrechts, Rasmussen, VanderWal and Wonenberg to receive awards
Four South Dakota State University alumni will be honored with awards at the South Dakota Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ annual conference, which will be Sept. 20 in Sioux Falls.
The winners were:
- Outstanding Dietitian of the Year: Katy VanderWal ’05;
- Outstanding Preceptor of the Year: Delaine Rasmussen ’03/M.S. ’05;
- Emerging Leader in Dietetics: William Wonnenberg ’08; and
- Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year: Amanda Lambrechts ’14.
“The didactic program in dietetics at South Dakota State University is a strong program that produces students with strong leadership skills. The graduates who received the honors displayed leadership skills while in school and have continued to serve the profession by volunteering to serve in leadership roles for the profession of dietetics, as well as, in their organizations,” said Kendra Kattelmann, a distinguished professor and head of the Department of Health and Nutritional Sciences. “They also have provided service to the South Dakota State University by volunteering to precept future dietitians during the dietetic internship. We are proud of their work and accomplishments.”
VanderWal is the Brookings Health System’s registered dietitian and was the SDAND Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year in 2009. Rasmussen, the 2010 Outstanding Dietitian of the Year, is the registered dietitian/diabetic team leader at the Indian Health Service Sisseton Service Unit/Woodrow Wilson Keeble Memorial Health Care Center. Wonnenberg is the supervisory dietitian at the IHS Rosebud Service Unit while Lambrechts is a retail dietitian at Hy-Vee in Sioux Falls and also works in private practice.
