The 73rd edition of the Miss South Dakota competition will make its Brookings debut May 30-June 1 in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center on the South Dakota State University campus.
The Miss South Dakota competition will feature 16 young women and 13 teenagers competing for thousands of dollars in scholarships and the roles of Miss South Dakota and Miss South Dakota’s Outstanding Teen. After four days of rehearsals and appearances, preliminary competitions will be May 30-31. Miss South Dakota’s Outstanding Teen will be crowned May 31, and finals for the Miss South Dakota competition will be June 1.
The competition theme is “Believe!” and will feature an extensive choreographed musical production. The production is written, produced and directed by Ray Peterson, former SDSU professor and South Dakota Hall of Fame member. Peterson is known around the state for his dazzling theatrical productions.
SDSU alumnus Shawn Cable, an Emmy award-winning meteorologist, storm chaser and morning show co-host at KSFY, is the master of ceremonies.
Performances will be held at 7 p.m. May 30-June 1 at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center.
A fundraising golf tournament will be held May 31 at Edgebrook Golf Course in Brookings.
