Jackrabbits win events at South Dakota Music Teachers Association competition

Several South Dakota State University students placed in the South Dakota Music Teachers Association music performance competitions, held Thursday through Saturday at the Performing Arts Center on campus.

They were:

  • Micah Perry, a sophomore music major from Brookings, won the Collegiate Voice I category;
  • Daniel Stratton, a senior music major from Brookings, won the Collegiate Voice III category;
  • Andrew Horst, a junior music major from Brookings, placed second in the Collegiate Woodwinds category; and
  • Joanna Boll, a freshman music major from Elkton, received honorable mention in the Collegiate Woodwinds category.

 
The association also held the annual Music Teachers National Association Young Artists Competition. Winners from this competition are eligible to represent South Dakota at the regional competition.

SDState students placing were:

  • Mary Ellen Kennedy, a junior music major from Beresford, won the Young Artist-Woodwinds competition;
  • Sylvia Larson, a senior music major from Harrisburg, placed second in the Young Artist-Woodwinds competition; and
  • Cydney Chamberlain, a senior nutrition major from Maple Grove, Minnesota, received Honorable Mention in the Young Artist Voice competition.
