Students from the Investment Club visited Cboe Options Exchange to learn how investment works behind the screen.
For the president of the Investment Club, Nikita Medvedev, the visit helped students see “what happens whenever you trade” and learn how investment works.
The trip to Chicago helped bring the members together and encourage leadership.
“The trip served as a great platform for people to collaborate, talk about investments and just talk to each other,” Medvedev said.
This year’s annual field trip included meeting with financial professionals and potential employers.
The club also visited the headquarter of Thinkorswim which provides the trading platform to the club for an investment competition which uses fake money.
For the adviser of the club, Zhiguang Wang, the trip was more than academic learning. The trip helped to “build a bonding between investment club members and nurture future leaders.”
“The whole purpose of the trip was for us to get more familiar with the people in the group in a way,” Medvedev added. Students don’t get many opportunities to talk outside the group and the trip helps in bringing people together.
The club members meet every week and focus on educating members about investment through guest speakers and other activities. “We teach people how to invest and give them basic knowledge so more people feel comfortable with investing,” Medvedev said.
The group of 18 members attended the four day trip at the end of March.
