Billie Jo Pirlet has been named South Dakota State University’s January Civil Service Employee of the Month. A reception honoring her will start at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 29 in Berg Agricultural Hall.
Pirlet, who started at State in 2012, currently works in finance in the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences.
In letters of support, co-workers praised her willingness to help.
“Billie Jo is a vital part of the Rodeo Club bookkeeping and is always looking out for the best for the club,” said Ron Skovly, the club’s coach. “Her positive attitude shows every day with a big smile no matter what the situation. Billie Jo also volunteers her time to help with our annual Buckles and Bling fundraiser that has more than 250 attendees and helps raise over $20,000 each year toward team expenses. She is also very prompt in returning calls and emails when questions come up or contracts need to be approved. Going above and beyond comes natural to her, and we are very lucky to have her help us every time we need help with something.”
Others talked about her attitude.
“Billie Jo always has a cheerful attitude. Because of her attitude, people are very comfortable coming to her with their questions or concerns. This is an invaluable skill to have,” said Justin Werkmeister, director of finance and accountability for the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences. “She loves digging into problems and helping others find solutions. Many people in our college, and some in other colleges, have come to know Billie Jo as a trusted resource that is always willing to help.”
“Billie Jo is a person that you are always happy to see, it doesn't matter if it's at her office, in the hallway or even on the street. She is a bubbly and kind person. She always has a smile on her face when she sees you,” said Martha Aragon, who works in the dean’s office for the college. “She provides excellent customer service and her job is always a priority. She works very hard on her projects and they are always submitted on time. She is always willing to help you with whatever project you are working on.”
“I am thankful to be part of SDSU and get to work with so many wonderful people,” said Pirlet, who is originally from Flandreau and enjoys gardening, landscaping and home improvement projects.
All SDSU Employee of the Month selections are determined through a nomination process by the Civil Service Advisory Council. Each civil service employee of the month receives an appreciation monetary gift from the F.O. Butler Foundation. The trustees of the foundation recognize the importance of civil service employees and take this opportunity to thank them for their exemplary service.
