Nancy Fahrenwald, dean of South Dakota State University’s College of Nursing, announced that Christina Plemmons ’02/M.S. ’08 has been promoted to a new administrative role at the college’s West River Department site in Rapid City. Plemmons, an assistant professor, will be the director of Academic Nursing Education.
“Christina will coordinate and supervise implementation of program changes, assume some administrative duties and provide support to our department and college,” said Barbara Hobbs, assistant dean for the West River Department. “She’s been successful working with countless students as an undergraduate nursing faculty, teaching and advising in the undergraduate program.”
Plemmons, who recently completed a doctorate in nursing education, received the South Dakota Nurses Association Nurse Educator Award in 2015.
“The West River Department has grown significantly under Dr. Hobbs' leadership. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work more closely with her,” Plemmons said. “My new position is unique; not many organizations are as forward thinking when it comes to leadership positions. This is just one example of why the College of Nursing is such a great place to work.”
While working at Rapid City Regional Hospital, Plemmons started as a clinical teaching assistant at State in 2005. She became an instructor in 2009. Her credentials include her being a certified nurse educator and a certified medical-surgical nurse.
