College names Future Innovators of America
Selections for the third class of Future Innovators of America Fellowships have been announced by the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering.
The 12 recipients and the department which selected them are:
• Kamal Albousafi and Samara Overvaag, both mathematics and statistics
• Caden Fischer and John Akujobi, both computer science
• Matthew Croke, civil engineering
• Andrew Sternhagen, electrical engineering
• Random Nisia and Turner Marr, both mechanical engineering
• Lydia Loken and Amee Parmar, both ag engineering
• Jakob Burckhard and Levi Minion, both construction and concrete industry managementConstruction management and paper dolls
In the tough and gritty world of construction, paper dolls would seem to be as out of place as steel-toed boots at a ballet performance. However, when four construction management students attended a recent skills competition, paper doll construction was among the activities.
Of course, the South Dakota State University students weren’t putting dresses or bonnets on their dolls. In fact, their dolls weren’t even what Pinterest would call paper dolls.
Their paper dolls were cut-out, scaled pieces of paper that represented tilt-up concrete panels on cast-on-site projects. The students and 16 others from other Midwest universities were taking part in the Region 4 Skills Summit sponsored by the Associated Schools of Construction.The concrete problem
Mohammed Teymouri, assistant professor of construction management in South Dakota State University's Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering, is working to solve one of the most pressing issues in the construction industry: how to lower carbon emissions of concrete.

Emma Roth never knew a degree in concrete industry management existed when she enrolled at South Dakota State University in fall 2021. Now she is only a semester away from graduating and has made quite an impact on the 3-year-old program. She would like to make an even bigger impact in the future — as program director.

The annual South Dakota State University Celebration of Faculty Excellence recognized 30 faculty members, researchers and scientists Tuesday. The event honors faculty members in the university's colleges for outstanding research, teaching and service.
SDSU moving forward to offer bachelor's degree in concrete industry management
South Dakota State University’s Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering will soon offer a bachelor’s degree in concrete industry management. The degree announcement comes after the CIM National Steering Committee and the North Central Region patrons selected SDSU after an approximate six-month selection process.
