Brookings middle school principal, SDSU alum given top SD award
Todd Foster’s decades-long career in education has taken him in different directions and led him on a path of service to his students, school and community. This year, the South Dakota State University alum’s dedicated journey is being honored at the state level. Foster, who serves as principal of George S. Mickelson Middle School in Brookings, was recently named the top principal in the state of South Dakota.
Graduate Student Appreciation Week
Graduate students make up about 10% of the student population across 57 graduate programs and 29 graduate certificates offered at South Dakota State University. Each graduate student is immersed in research and scholarship with the support of their advisor and the Graduate School staff.
SDSU to host ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ Community Read events
A series of events featuring the bestselling book “Killers of the Flower Moon” this semester will culminate April 5, when author David Grann will give a lecture on the South Dakota State University campus. The events — Community Read discussions, a free movie screening and the author lecture — are all part of SDSU’s School of English and Interdisciplinary Studies’ first-ever Community Read.
Griffith Honors Forum Lecture to feature ‘The Sioux Chef’
Chef Sean Sherman, also known as “The Sioux Chef,” will host a virtual conversation with an audience at South Dakota State University about his role in helping reclaim and celebrate the rich culinary heritage of Indigenous communities around the world. The livestream of the Griffith Honors Forum Lecture featuring Sherman will start at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center.
SDSU commencement ceremonies back at Dacotah Bank Center
South Dakota State University commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2024 will be held May 4 at the Dacotah Bank Center in Brookings. The move from campus is due to construction in Frost Arena as that facility continues its transformation into First Bank & Trust Arena.
Jackrabbits near, far rally together to break records on seventh annual One Day for STATE
Jackrabbits in all 50 states and across 15 countries united to tackle historic philanthropy on Sept. 7 during One Day for STATE. The South Dakota State University Foundation’s seventh annual giving day celebrated all things SDSU and the impact that can be made through private gifts.
Near record first-year class, retention drives SDSU enrollment up
A near-record class of first-time students and record retention from students’ freshmen to sophomore year increased South Dakota State University’s enrollment to its highest number in five years. Figures released by the South Dakota Board of Regents today shows total enrollment for fall 2023 at South Dakota’s largest and most comprehensive university at 11,505—the largest enrollment since 2019, when 11,518 students attended SDSU.
