Larry Ness

Larry Ness was raised on a farm in the Sinai area and graduated from Brookings High School and from SDSU in 1969 with a degree in economics. He was hired by the Comptroller of the Currency and worked as a national bank examiner. Larry worked at Mitchell National Bank as a commercial lender from 1974-1981. He then became executive vice president of First Dakota National Bank, Yankton, South Dakota. He remains at First Dakota National Bank as CEO and Chairman of the Board.

Larry served in the South Dakota National Guard and retired as a Major in the United States Army Reserve, completing 24 years of service.

He has severed, or currently serves as:

  • President of the South Dakota Bankers Association
  • Government Relations Council of American Bankers Association
  • South Dakota Investment Council
  • South Dakota Gaming Commission
  • South Dakota Heritage Foundation
  • South Dakota Art Museum
  • Center for Western Studies National Advisory Council
  • Mount Mary College Board of Trustees
  • SDSU Foundation Board of Trustees

as well as many local boards and committees.

Larry is married Diane Leubecher in 1970. They have three grown sons: Michael, Aaron and Rob who work in the family business.
