Intramural Rules for Golf League

Location

The six-week league will be held at the Edgebrook Golf Course on Thursday nights with tee times starting at 5pm.

  1. Each round will consist of nine holes.
  2. Determination of league play on the front or back nine will be made by Edgebrook course management.

League Format

Teams will play from the white tee markers.

Participants will be responsible for paying their own greens and cart fees each week.

The league format will change on a weekly basis according to the following schedule:

  1. Week 1: Scramble
  2. Week 2: Best Ball
  3. Week 3: Alternate Shot
  4. Week 4: Scramble
  5. Week 5: Best Ball
  6. Week 6: Alternate Shot

In a scramble format, each player will hit a tee shot. They will then choose the best ball to play between the two options, and both players will next hit from that spot. This procedure is followed on every shot for the remainder of the hole, including putts.

Balls played off the green should be within one club length (no closer to the hole) of the spot from where his/her partner played.

  1. Putts should be played within 3 inches of their partner’s spot.

Both members of each team play their own ball throughout each hole.

The lowest score among the two team members serves as the team score for that hole.

Tee shots will be hit alternately. Therefore, one partner will tee off on the odd-numbered holes and the other will tee off on the even-numbered holes.

Play each second shot by the player who did not tee off. These players will hit the second shot using the same ball that their partner teed off with, in its lie as it is found.

Continue this process of alternating shots, using the same ball in its lie as found for each shot, until each team has holed out.

Playing Rules

USGA rules will govern all play except where modified by league or course rules.

Players will be given two minutes to search for a lost ball.

  1. Time begins when the player reaches the vicinity of the lost ball in question.
  2. If, after two minutes has expired, the player will incur a one stroke penalty and drop a new ball according to USGA rules.

Once a player tees off, they must finish the round, except under the following circumstances:

  1. An injury occurs
  2. It is raining too hard to continue
  3. There is lightning in the area (even if it is not raining)

If a player stops playing for one of the three aforementioned reasons, their score will not count, regardless of one’s score.

  1. If a player decides to continue playing after it rains or stops lightning, his/her score will count, even if they leave due to poor play.
  2. In all other cases, should a player not finish a round, their score will count.

Should a team not be present, they will receive the highest score from the week, plus one stroke.

The league winner will be determined by the lowest total average.

Etiquette

  1. Please smooth all marks made in sand bunkers.
  2. Leave the putting green as soon as you have holed out.
  3. Do not play until the players in front of you are out of range.
  4. Balls may be cleaned on the green, and ball marks repaired prior to putting.
  5. Please observe all local course rules.
