Common Questions:

Who can use the climbing area?

The climbing area is open to any SDSU student or Wellness Center member. Guests are also permitted, but must purchase a day pass.

What does it cost?

Use of the climbing area is free to students and members.

What kind of equipment do I need?

The climbing area provides climbing shoes, chalk bags, and a harness at no charge. Participants are welcome to bring their own equipment as well. Climbing Wall staff will inspect personal equipment for safety before use.

The wall isn't open. Can I still climb?

Bouldering no higher than the red line is allowed when the wall is closed and no staff are present to belay. If you would like shoes and chalk, users are welcome to ask the staff at the front desk. Upon finishing, users are asked to place their items in the bin provided and to notify staff they are done climbing.

Is there any training or skill required to climb?

No prior training is required to climb. Wellness Center employees are available to belay.

Can I belay other climbers?

Participants with belay certification may belay another climber. Belay Certification is valid for the academic year. All climbers must re-test annually.

I was previously belay certified. Do I have to take the class again?

If you already know how to belay, you can take the belay skills test any time the climbing wall is open. Simply pay the $5 fee at the Welcome Desk and present your receipt to the Climbing Wall staff.
