Adult First Aid, CPR & AED Certifications

American Red Cross

Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certifications and re-certifications are offered at the SDState Miller Wellness Center through the American Red Cross. This course teaches participants the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed.

During this course, candidates will participate in a practice of skills and a classroom-based review of Red Cross administrative policies and procedures. All candidates must be present for all sessions in order to successfully pass the course in addition to the prerequisites and coursework requirements.

Prerequisites

Complete the on-line portion of the course/class prior to arrival at the facility. Candidates must bring their completed on-line training certificate in order to proceed with the course. To complete the course, candidates must be able to successfully demonstrate the skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person.

Registration for certification or review courses are completed through the Miller Wellness Center Portal.

Courses will be held in the Miller Wellness Center Large Conference Room. Registration opens August 1 and closes one week prior to each class.

Basic Lay Responder - The American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program provides participants with the knowledge and skills they need to recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. The courses in this program teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed. The intended audience for the courses in this program includes lay responders in the workplace and community.

Professional Rescuer - The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Blended Learning CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers course is to instruct those who have a duty to act (professional rescuers) in the knowledge and skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim experiencing cardiac arrest. Participants in this course may represent a broad range of backgrounds, levels of education and experience. Participants may include members of an emergency response team, such as lifeguards, public safety personnel, medical personnel and other employees with a duty to respond.
