COVID-19 Testing Update

Student Testing Site Location During Cold Weather – With the onset of colder weather, the student testing site will be moving to the west concourse of Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium Monday, Nov. 2. Open testing is available from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Students will be able to drive their vehicles to the west side of the stadium and enter the concourse in their vehicle from the north. Sampling for testing will be done inside the stadium. Walk-up service will also be available in the same area of the west concourse.

Signage will be placed to direct both drive-thru and walk-up testing.

Academic Plan for Fall 2020

Academic decision-making for Academic Year 2020-21 will be guided by the university’s commitment to high quality academic programs, and the health and safety of the university community.

Course offerings during Fall Semester 2020 will include a limited number of entirely face-to-face courses, several courses being a combination of face-to-face instruction with online/virtual components and other courses being entirely online/virtual. Classes may be scheduled into the evening and on Saturday as feasible and necessary.

2020 Fall Academic Calendar Adjustment

The South Dakota Board of Regents announced adjustments to the 2020 Fall Academic Calendar. Instruction will now begin Aug. 19 and on-campus instruction will be completed by Thanksgiving. Labor Day, Native American Day and Veterans Day will be used as class days to accommodate the 70-class day schedule. The university will work to plan programming to appropriately celebrate and recognize those holidays.

COVID-19 Testing Update - Oct. 13, 2020

South Dakota State University takes your health and safety seriously. To that end, we are opening the SDSU student testing site in Brookings to all SDSU students free of charge. The testing process will remain the same, but students do not need an invite to be tested. Testing is voluntary.

When: Open testing will be available Monday through Thursday between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Where: Open testing will be available at the drive-thru/walk-thru testing site located near Frost Arena. Enter the parking lot at the southeast corner of Frost Arena.

What do I need to bring?: Review privacy policies and forms as you will be required to complete the forms. You only need to complete the forms under the “Drive Thru Testing.” You DO NOT need to complete the COVID-19 Case Notification Form, unless you meet the criteria for completing that form. Please be prepared to show your student identification.

Fall 2020 Move-In Information



In-Person Move-In for Returning Students with Early Housing Assignments (ie. student leaders working on campus, student-athletes, Pride members, etc.): Aug. 10-13, 2020

In-Person Move-In for New Students: Aug. 14-16, 2020

In-Person Move-In for Returning Students: Aug. 17-18, 2020

Who can come with me during move-in?
Students are allowed to bring two guests over the age of 18 to assist.

Do we have to carry our own belongings to our rooms?
We will need students and their family members to move items into their rooms. No volunteers will be available to assist in moving student belongings. Golf carts will be operational to bring belongings from the unloading areas to the residence hall but no volunteers will assist with moving belongings from vehicles or into rooms. Volunteers will be driving the golf carts.

How long can my family stay after I am moved in?
Guests will be encouraged to depart after the scheduled move-in time.

Textbooks and Educational Materials for Fall 2020

The textbook area of the South Dakota State University Bookstore will not be open for normal retail operations due to Covid19. However, the website for textbooks is now open and we highly encourage all students to order their educational content prior to August 10 and have them shipped to your home address free of charge.

SDSU announces “Drop-n-Go” option for students moving onto campus

South Dakota State University’s Office of Residential Life announced initial move-in plans for students who plan to live on-campus during the 2020-21 academic year. The plans include a “Drop-n-Go” option for students to bring their belongings to campus July 24-Aug. 7. Read the release for additional "Drop-n-Go" information.
