Current Information for Brookings County

Brookings Health is partnering with Sanford Clinic Brookings and Avera Medical Group Brookings to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine to qualifying Brookings County residents and SDSU employees.

Vaccine Allocation – Currently Brookings Health System is receiving COVID-19 doses every week. This number continually increasing as more vaccines become available . The system has developed a vaccine page with information about quantities and doses administered daily.

Vaccine Distribution – Brookings Health, as determined by the South Dakota Department of Health, will operate within the S.D. DOH’s COVID Vaccination Plan. Those now receiving doses include:

  • Individuals 65+ years of age;
  • High-risk individuals, including those who have 2+ underlying medical conditions;
  • People who live in congregate living, which is defined at this time being senior living facilities and group home populations who are at a higher risk. It does not include on-campus residence halls at this time.

Phase 1D also includes educators, persons age 65+ and funeral service workers. Brookings Health will move to those individuals after the initial priority list of the Phase 1D. At this time, the South Dakota Department of Health is considering all SDSU employees in the educators’ category.

Brookings County residents who qualify for the current Phase 1D selection and are not a patient at Avera Medical Group Brookings or Sanford Clinic Brookings may join the vaccine waiting list on the Brookings Health System website.

Please note this information is fluid and subject to change. We remain in contact with the Brookings Health System and the South Dakota Department of Health on a daily basis. There are many individuals working on this distribution process and we will do our best to communicate what we know, when we know it. Your patience and understanding is appreciated. The health system is managing the 300 weekly doses to the best of their ability.
