Incoming Freshman Abroad

SDSU’s Incoming Freshman Abroad program provides recently graduated and admitted first-year South Dakota State University students a chance to explore intriguing topics in small, active, learning environments in an international location.

This new program will take a group of new SDSU freshmen, together with SDSU instructors, to begin their SDSU academic journey before they come to campus in FA 2020.

Dates coming soon! | Program Theme: Berlin Conflict, Division, and Unity

All programs include a couple of days on campus as an orientation to the academic course content and an orientation for going abroad. The group will travel together, depart from the SDSU campus for the airport, and then abroad. The group will return to the SDSU campus after returning from the program. Students will have an option to have parents meet them at the airport upon their return.

SDSU faculty and staff designed this seminar to help students transition to SDSU and address important institutional goals. After participating on this programs, students should be able to:

  • Describe how culture(s), profession, and personal experiences frame one's thinking;

  • Develop personal and professional support networks;

  • Improve college-readiness skills such as reading, writing, and critical thinking; and
