Wired Network

Keeping You Connected.

University Networking and Research Computing maintains the core infrastructure network, including "hard wired" or "wired" network ports.  This infrastructure enables connectivity to both the Internet 1 and Internet 2 networks.  For reliable, high speed data connection and transfer look no further.

Faculty and Staff

Wired network ports are available in all campus buildings as well as external locations owned and operated by the university.  Network cable drops can be requested, at an additional cost, when there isn't an available port for you to use.  Ports are not activated by default but they can be activated by request.

Request a new device:

  • Find the data port closest to your computer,
  • Locate the data port label and write it down (ex. 100-D01 or 213-03)
  • No Label? Contact the SDSU Support Desk for Assistance
  • Fill out the New Device Form (requires InsideState access)

Deactivation or Move?

  • Make note of the data port you wish to deactivate or move,
  • Not labeled?  Contact the SDSU Support Desk for Assistance.
  • Fill out the New Device Form (requires InsideState access)

Network Cable Drop Request

Currently all residential halls are wired with active network ports.  Upon arrival to your designated dorm, you should be able to plug in and connect to the campus Ethernet network.  User based authentication needs to be setup on your computer before you connect. Wired access is available in residence halls and must be setup by following these directions 802.1x User Authentication.
