IMPACT 2018 Final Report

From July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2018, IMPACT 2018: A Strategic Vision for South Dakota State University, served to enhance the future of South Dakota and its citizens and meet the challenges of a global, complex and interconnected society.

The plan’s strategic goals drew on the university’s strengths and commitment to excellence, while being rooted in the university’s historic land-grant mission of excellence in teaching, research, service and engagement.

IMPACT 2018 provided a detailed set of performance indicators to measure progress and the following pages detail the final outcomes of the plan.

South Dakota State University is the state’s largest, most comprehensive higher-education institution. As South Dakota’s 1862 Morrill Act land-grant university, SDSU had a fall 2017 enrollment of 12,527 from all 50 states and more than 90 countries.

Students can choose from 80 majors, 87 minors, 35 specializations, 36 master’s degree options, 15 Ph.D. programs and two professional doctorates. The university also offers courses at various off-campus sites as well as undergraduate and graduate programs online through the Office of Continuing and Distance Education.

Research and outreach connect the university to thousands of South Dakotans each year, providing services, resources and new knowledge that spur economic development and growth and enhances our communities.

Barry H. Dunn has served as the 20th president of South Dakota State University since May 2016. He is the fourth alumnus chosen to lead SDSU.

IMPACT 2018 Goals

Goal 1: Promote academic excellence through quality programs, engaged learners and an innovative teaching and learning environment.

Goal 2: Generate new knowledge, encourage innovations and promote artistic and creative works that contribute to the public good and result in social, cultural or economic development for South Dakota, the region, our nation and the world.

Goal 3: Extend the reach and depth of the university by developing strategic programs and collaborations.

Goal 4: Secure human and fiscal resources to ensure high performance through enhanced financial, management and governance systems.
