The most frequent question parents have about our department is "What can my child do with a major in history or political science?"
The answer is simple: anything.
We, as advisors, try to ask students the right question: "What do you think you want to do when you graduate?" Depending on the answer, we suggest certain options and courses that will help prepare your child for the job they want upon graduation.
We provide guidance that helps them create a resume that will be attractive to graduate school, corporations, school districts, law schools, and non-profits. If they need to do an internship, study abroad, or join Model UN to get valuable experience, we suggest that they do so.
While we cannot force your child to take advantage of these opportunities, we try very hard to help them optimize their chances in the future. That's what good advising is all about.
