Open Testing

South Dakota State University takes your health and safety seriously. To that end, we are opening the SDSU student testing site in Brookings to all SDSU students free of charge. The testing process will remain the same, but students do not need an invite to be tested. Testing is voluntary.

When: Open testing will be available Monday - Friday, 9:30 AM-2:30 PM; and Saturday - Sunday, 10:00 AM-2:00 PM.

Where: With the onset of colder weather, the site for students to provide samples for testing is moving to the west concourse of Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium. Students will be able to drive their vehicles to the west side of the stadium and enter the concourse in their vehicle from the north. Sampling for testing will be done inside the stadium. Walk-up service will also be available in the same area of the west concourse.

Why: Testing helps identify COVID-19 infections early—even in those who show no symptoms—to maintain the university’s ability for in-person instruction this academic year. Consider getting a test even if you currently have no symptoms of COVID-19 and no known contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19.

What do I need to bring?: Review privacy policies and forms on this page as you will be required to complete the forms. You only need to complete the forms under the “Drive Thru Testing.” You DO NOT need to complete the COVID-19 Case Notification Form, unless you meet the criteria for completing that form. Please be prepared to show your student identification.

How fast do I know my results: Results will be available within approximately 24 – 36 hours. You will receive a phone call for a positive test and an email to log into to the patient portal for their negative test..

Couple more things: If you have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 90 days, there is no need to test unless you develop new symptoms. Also, test results do not supersede quarantine or isolation directives from the South Dakota Department of Health.
