Jacks 15 Registration / South Dakota Festival of Books Author Talk, featuring Olympic Gold Medalist, Billy Mills
Join us Friday at 7 p.m. at the South Dakota Art Museum to hear Billy Mills share his inspiring story of becoming an Olympic Gold Medalist. Learn about his new children’s book "Wings of an Eagle: The Gold Medal Dreams of Billy Mills," illustrated by S.D. Nelson.
Billy Mills (Oglala Lakota) is the only American ever to have won the Olympic gold medal in the 10,000-meter run, a 1964 victory considered one of the greatest upsets in Olympic history. Mills grew up on the Pine Ridge Reservation, attended the University of Kansas, served in the U.S. Marine Corps, founded Running Strong for American Indian Youth and became an internationally known speaker and author. His new children’s book, "Wings of an Eagle," tells his inspiring life story.
This event is free and open to the public.
