South Dakota Art Museum Guild Virtual Program - Nov. 17, 9:30 - 11:00 am Central:
- 9:30 - 10:30 | Signe Stuart | For the Time Being
- 10:30 - 11:00 | Art Guild Meeting
Signe Stuart, former Professor of Art at South Dakota State University and nationally known artist, will join us from her studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We will learn about her approach to art through experimentation using a variety of materials, often breaking with traditional rectangular shapes and framing. Some of her latest works have been room sized installation environments.
Several of her works in the South Dakota Art Museum’s Permanent Collection are on display now in PAST-PRESENT: Recent Acquisitions in Abstraction and in last year’s Ripple Effects exhibition. Signe will give us insights into these works as well.
You can see images of her work and read her bio and artist statement on her website: www.signestuart.net.
On a personal note, Signe’s late husband, Joe, served as Director of the South Dakota Art Museum during the museum’s formative years, 1972 - 1994. As a couple and as individuals, Signe and Joe contributed significantly to the South Dakota art scene.
