4 p.m CST / 3 p.m. MST | Live from the Center for American Indian Research and Native Studies (CAIRNS) - join us for our first ARTbeat webinar featuring noted historian and art exhibition curator, Craig Howe!

Howe will explore the history and ramifications of the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty between the “different bands of the Sioux Nation of Indians” and the United States. This treaty is the subject of the CAIRNS exhibition, "Articles of a Treaty", featuring works by contemporary Oceti Sakowin visual artists, poets and musicians interpreting the seventeen articles of the treaty.

Learn about Howe's approach to curating this important exhibit that opened at South Dakota Art Museum in December 2019 (closed now due to the COVID-19 shut down). You can get a preview of the artwork, poetry and music in "Articles of a Treaty" by visiting CAIRNS.
