Event Details

Gregory Melikian obtained his Ph.D. in Biophysics from the Moscow State University, Russia in 1984. He received further training in membrane biophysics at the Physics Institute in Yerevan, Armenia and held a senior research scientist position at the Orbeli Institute of Physiology, Armenian Academy of Sciences between 1988 and 1990. In 1990, Dr. Melikian joined the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Physiology at Rush University in Chicago as an Instructor and rose through the ranks to a tenured Associate Professor in the same Department. In 2005, he moved to the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland where he was promoted to Full Professor. Dr. Melikian joined the Department of Pediatrics at Emory University as a Professor in 2010. His laboratory studies the mechanisms of enveloped virus entry into cells.
