2018 Natural Resources Camp

Flyer for the 2018 Natural Resources Camp.

Event Details

The Natural Resources Camp is a great way to gain exposure to the world of natural resources, including fish, plants, wildlife, soils, invertebrates and water. The camp offers opportunities to gain hands-on experiences in natural resource ecology and management. The camp is intended for high school students, entering grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, who have a strong desire to learn more about the natural world or who have an interest in pursuing a career related to natural resources. Permission of parent or guardian is required.

Camp activities will be led by faculty and graduate students from the Department of Natural Resource Management from SDSU.  We will also have biologists personnel from natural resource agencies.

We are still finalizing this year's schedule of activities. In past years, activities have included:

  • Bird of South Dakota
  • Fish Sampling
  • Aquatic Invertebrate Sampling
  • Stream Ecology
  • Prairie Plant Diversity
  • Vegetation Sampling
  • Mammal tracks
  • Soil Health
  • Orienteering
  • Nocturnal Invertebrates
  • Careers in Natural Resources

The final list of activities is subject to change based on weather conditions or other unforeseen issues.

The registration fee ($300) includes meals, housing and a camp t-shirt. Gatorade and water will also be provided. Space is limited to 25 males and 25 females and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please complete this registration form and deposit by May 31st, 2018. We are still working on finalizing the camp schedule. Check in will be early-afternoon on Monday, July 16th and check out will be around noon on Friday, July 20th. A detailed schedule will be provided by the registration deadline.
