Mrs. Matthew Evans, Ipswich, South Dakota, has long been an active worker in Edmunds County. Throughout her life she has been a local civic leader. For 10 years she served as a leader in the Prairie 4-H club and during this time her four children were active members. Her daughter Mavis, while a member of the Prairie Club in 1944, won a trip to the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago for her work in the home life division.

Evans served as Edmunds County chairman for the American Cancer Society for five years, she has been active in Extension home demonstration club work since 1934 and has held all the offices in her local club. She has just completed her second term as county chairman, and is district chairman of the Federation of Home Demonstration Clubs. She is past president of District 4 Rebekah Lodge and is past Noble Grand of Rosette Rebekah Lodge in Ipswich. She has been secretary of the cemetery association since 1951.

The Evans children include Marion (Howard) Lester, Onaka, Minnesota; Mavis (James) Horon, Aberdeen; Myrna (Dean) Perkins, Beaverton, Oregon and Morris, Rancho Chardova, California.
