Bucher was born in Minnesota. She attended the University of Minnesota two and a half years, a Conservatory of Music for two years, and taught school for five years.

Mr. and Mrs. Bucher had no children of their own, but adopted three.

The Buchers farmed six quarters of land near Orient. They lived on the same farm 17 years until 1938, when Mr. Bucher died. Bucher then moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, where she has lived since.

Bucher was always interested in music, and played the piano and studied music most of her life. Her other hobbies were studying birds, collecting copies of paintings by famous artist, stamps, and articles and patterns on quilts.

Bucher is a member of the Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, National Council of Catholic Women and has been an organist and choir leader. She was president of her local Home Extension Club, vice president of Hand County Extension Clubs, member of Executive Board of Hand County Extension Clubs, member of a bird club, chairman of committee for Orient for Better Homes in America, a leader of her Garden Club, and served as a 4-H club leader.

After Bucher moved to St. Paul, she attended the University of Minnesota and received an A.L.A. degree. She has traveled considerably since 1942, and in 1946 made an extended trip through Europe.
