Ed and Carrie Stitt lived 42 years on Pleasant View dairy farm near Hitchcock. There they brought up seven children, all of whom are in some way connected with agriculture.
Stitt was always interested in community and club work. When just a girl at Plankinton she began the church work which was an important part of the life of her family. She was a charter member of the first extension club in Spink County and a member of the Best Ever extension club in Huron, as well as of the Carrie Davis Study club of Hitchcock and of the Get-together club of Rockwood community. During World War II she devoted all the time she could spare to the Red Cross. She helped organize the Sunshine club for crippled children.
Stitt attended the state fair every year since it has been held at Huron until her death in 1936. She was an expert cook. Her candy won a state-wide reputation. She demonstrated at fairs, clubs and neighborhood gatherings.
Stitt’s father was a direct descendant of Ethan Allen of revolutionary fame and her mother was a Chrysler from New York.
