South Dakota State University carries a large amount of family history with aunts and uncles as well as my brothers attending. Growing up I knew I wanted to attend SDSU, and during my junior year of high school the volleyball program contacted me about playing volleyball for the Jackrabbits. My attendance at South Dakota State was a done deal.
The most interesting class I have taken thus far has been Genetics with Dr. Catherine Carter. Even in high school, the study of genetics fascinated me. Genetics intrigues me because it’s amazing to think that every single person is unique in their own way due to their genetic composition. I enjoyed studying the probability of genetics and the role of dominant and recessive traits.
While attending SDSU, I would have to say that all the teammates I have had in the last 4 years have been my inspiration. Each and every one of them, in their own unique way, has encouraged and inspired the best from me. Whether on the court, in the weight room, or in the classroom, my teammates have always pushed me to perform my best in all the arenas of the college experience. I am most grateful to all the teammates I have had for inspiring to be the best student, friend, teammate, and player I could be.
The most memorable experience has been our volleyball team qualifying for the Summit League tournament in our 2010 season. We could not have made the tournament without the effort of every person on the team, and I felt it really brought our team closer. It was rewarding to see our hard work pay off.
After South Dakota State, I would like to pursue a Master’s degree along with a graduate assistantship with a volleyball program. I want to further my education in the study of strength and conditioning or sport and entertainment management and my passion for athletics. Eventually, I would love to be a strength and conditioning coach, or I would enjoy coaching volleyball full-time.
Time management is critical. Learning to maximize time is very important. Also, utilize all the resources available and never be afraid to ask questions or seek guidance. Above all, don’t forget to slow down and enjoy the experience!
