Undergraduate School

Does SDSU have Elementary Education?
Although we don't have an Elementary Education program, we do have a specialization within the Early Childhood major, called Birth to 8, in which students can become certified to teach kindergarten through third grade. Similarly, we have a Cooperative Elementary Education specialization that enables students to receive certification in grades K through 8.

I have a degree in elementary education and am currently teaching in a public elementary school. I want to teach preschoolers in our school but need an endorsement. Can I get this at SDSU?
Yes. We do have a preschool endorsement, as well as a special education endorsement, both of which are obtainable at SDSU without having to earn a full Early Childhood Education degree.

Does SDSU offer certification for coaching?
Yes. Contact the Coaching Certification Coordinator for more information.

I don’t see an undergraduate degree in education. Does SDSU provide teacher education preparation for middle school and high school teachers?
Yes. At SDSU, you major in the discipline you plan to teach and take the teacher education block of courses to be eligible for certification. The major and education block can be completed within the normal 4-year curriculum.

How do I enroll in a distance education class from your college?

How do I know what classes I should take?
Once you are enrolled, you will be assigned an academic advisor who will help you select classes and make sure you are meeting the University requirements.

Graduate School

Is the GRE required?
No, the GRE is not required for any major in the College of Education and Human Resources.

Are graduate assistantships available?
Yes, but the number is limited. Contact your program's department for information and the application process.

I have not received my bachelor's yet, can I still apply?
Yes. You can apply during your last semester of undergraduate school and submit a partial transcript; you may be granted admission conditional upon receiving your degree.

Is there a deadline to apply to the Graduate School?
Yes, there are deadlines to apply.

Is there a fee to apply?
Yes, the Graduate School requires a $35 non-refundable application fee.

What is "Special Student Status"?
Special student status means that you can take up to 10 graduate credits without being accepted into a program. If you are accepted, those credits will transfer to your plan of study. Contact the Graduate School for more information.

What is the cost to attend?

When is tuition due?
Tuition is due on or before the first day of class. SDSU does have a payment plan option; please contact the Cashier's Office for more information. Students can also pay through SDePay on WebAdvisor.
