Leon D. Crossman earned a Ph.D. in solid state physics from Iowa State University after earning two degrees from South Dakota State College. He began his career at Dow Corning Corp., and was named manager of semiconductor silicon research in 1973. Eight years later he was promoted to resins and chemicals unit manufacturing manager in 1981 and then director of TS and D in 1982. In 1987, he became manager for High Tech Industries, followed by director of central R and D in 1989, and was named director of science and technology in early 1991. He was elected a corporate vice president in March of 1991. He then served as vice president and director, science and technology, for Dow Corning Corp. He attended MIT’s program for senior executives in 1987 and the Institute for International Studies’ Japanese Business Study Program (Tokyo) in 1989. He was a member of the Industrial Research Institute (IRI), Council on Chemical Research (CCR), American Physics Society, Electrochemical Society and Society of Advancement of Material Process Engineering (SAMPE).
