Georgia Jensen has touched countless lives as an active member and leader in Extension Homemakers and 4-H. She signed the Articles of Incorporation for the Western 4-H Home Economics Show in 1965 and has been actively involved since then.
Georgia and her husband Alvin work side-by-side on their ranch. During calving season, she often was the "night man" who checked the cattle for birthing problems. When their children were young, Georgia and Alvin purchased a flock of 3,000 chickens. It was her job to raise the chickens, collect and candle the eggs and deliver them to local merchants and individual customers.
Jensen was one of the first 4-H Clothing Key Leaders, and is a Master Clothing Teacher. She has taught beginning sewing workshops and is a sought-after 4-H judge because she relates well with children. She is a true mentor to many of the families with whom she has worked.
She is a vocal supporter of the Cooperative Extension Service and testified before the South Dakota Legislature's Joint Appropriations Committee on behalf of Extension. She says Extension helped her to be a good homemaker, answering questions she had about her home and family.
Jensen is a long-time member of the Extension Homemakers, has held district offices in the organization, and is active on several state committees. She is a member of the Lawrence County Cancer Society, Lawrence County Historical Society, president of the Church Council and has held most of the offices in her PEO Chapter. She is a past matron of both the Whitewood and Spearfish Chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She enjoys reading, music, traveling, knitting and sewing. Georgia and Alvin are the parents of two sons and two daughters: Katherine of Laramie, Wyoming; Clifford of Whitewood; Karl of Pretoria, South Africa; and Mary Miller of Silverton, Oregon.
