Bruce L. Miller interrupted his studies at South Dakota State College to pursue work as a junior physicist on a government war research project at the University of Iowa, which was followed by two years of military service. During this period, he completed an advanced course in electrical engineering at Rutgers University. He entered graduate school at the University of Kansas and fulfilled the requirements for an M.S. and a Ph.D., both in physics. Miller entered the research field with the Sandia Corp. in New Mexico. His research was concerned with damage assessment from nuclear detonations. In 1958, he was offered a full-time teaching position in the Physics Department at SDSC, a position he held until his retirement in 1988. After retirement, he tutored university and high school students.
