Biography

Dr. Yiqun Chen currently serves as Instructor of Jazz Studies, Saxophone, and Double Reeds at South Dakota State University. Additionally, Dr. Chen also teachers an online Jazz Appreciation Course and coaches jazz combos and saxophone quartet.
Dr. Chen received a BM from California State University Long Beach and an MAT from the University of Southern California. In May of 2016, Dr. Chen completed a DMA from the University of Iowa.
Dr. Chen is an active performer and educator with appearances in Japan, China, Belgium, and Croatia. In 2006, Dr. Chen was a member of the Disneyland All-American College Band. Dr. Chen also performs regularly at both regional and national conferences of the North American Saxophone Alliance.
Prior to joining the faculty at SDSU, Dr. Chen taught elementary and high school instrumental music in Los Angeles County, California.
