Biography

Kathryn Morrison, Ph.D., CFP®, AFC®
Katie Morrison currently serves as an assistance professor in the School of Health and Consumer Sciences at South Dakota State University. She is an instructor, advisor, and graduate program coordinator for the M.S. and certificate programs in Family Financial Planning and the graduate Financial Counseling Certificate program through the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (GPIDEA), as well as an instructor for undergraduate courses in Consumer Affairs. Prior, she was an Assistant Professor of Finance at Dakota Wesleyan University. Katie has developed and taught numerous courses in financial planning, consumer affairs, leadership, and first year experience. She has also developed courses and taught online for North Dakota State University and Oklahoma State University. In addition, Katie has served as a Personal Financial Consultant for MHN Government Services, providing financial education and resources for Service Members and their families. She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and Accredited Financial Counselor®.

Katie has been granted the highest level of certification in SDSU’s Online Instructor Certification Program and was awarded the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance Faculty Excellence Award, in 2014. In 2009, Morrison completed a Ph.D. in Family and Consumer Science Education from Iowa State University with an emphasis in Family Financial Planning. Her dissertation looked at perceived financial well-being among individuals in South Dakota. She received a M.S. in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation in 2004, and a B.S. in Consumer Affairs in 2002, both from South Dakota State University.
