Medical Laboratory Science

Kassi Erickson joined the Medical Laboratory Science program as an instructor in February 2019. She is a graduate of South Dakota State University with a B.S. degree in Microbiology. After graduating from SDSU, Kassi completed Sanford USD Medical Center’s Medical Laboratory Science Program and has been a board-certified medical laboratory scientist since 2013. In 2018, Kassi received her M.S. in MLS from the University of North Dakota. Kassi worked as a medical laboratory scientist at the Brookings Health System before to moving into education. Prior to joining the MLS program at SDSU, she was an instructor for the medical laboratory technician program at Lake Area Technical Institute. She earned her Doctorate in Education & Leadership in Healthcare (EdD) from Nebraska Methodist College in July 2023.

Kassi currently teaches courses in the MLS and Phlebotomy Certificate programs, including hematology, phlebotomy, and laboratory safety, as well as an introduction to Medical Laboratory Science. She is also the MLS Club faculty advisor.
