After my Medical Degree from the School of Medicine in Uruguay and my Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, I continue my training at the University of Minnesota School Of Public Health and at the Pediatrics Department with a degree in MPH-MCH and a Fellowship in Adolescent Health. My clinical experience involved taking care of women's and adolescent's health, teaching future health professionals, and doing research. While I do not have direct clinical responsibilities in the US, I have continue to teach and doing research at the CON, and clerckships with MDs at community clinics.
I have realized the importance of prevention and promotion, and the critical value of inter-professional work. I have been able to use my experience while an Associate Professor at the OB/GYN department in Uruguay, and now as an Associate Professor at SDSU CON and the Health Sciences Department. My background and experience allowed me to help move forward the mission, goals, and expectations of the College of Nursing and SDSU to promote and assure all South Dakotans live healthy lives. I have done so by teaching public health sciences to our students, and developing research that focus on relevant health topics for our communities and the Nation in general such as diabetes and preconception healthcare. I have done so in collaboration with faculty within our college and faculty from other colleges at SDSU as well, with funding from external (CDC) and internal (SDSU-Research Office) grants.
