Biography

Prior to entering academia, Professor McKillip engaged in professional practice of varying scales and types, including education, corporate office, retail, healthcare and specialty design projects. Her efforts were focused in business development and client relations, team management, and leading conceptual and design development for both architecture and interiors. This work has led to nine AIA South Dakota Honor and Merit awards, as well as six national juried exhibitions and conference presentations.

The research agenda for Associate Professor McKillip further represents and reinforces her individual strengths. Interdisciplinary collaboration, experiential learning, Reggio-Inspired learning environments and sustainability are themes dovetailed into sponsored research and scholarship of teaching and learning investigations. Dissemination has taken the form of patented intellectual property, licensed and commercialized furniture pieces, juried exhibitions, competitions and awards, and conference presentations; most notably the Best in Show for the FlexNest at the 2017 Interior Design Educators National Conference. Undergraduate students are brought into the design process and engage in research alongside the faculty team.
