Extension Responsibilities

I develop in-depth producer programs that provide knowledge and expertise in beef cattle production. In addition to programs, I provide individualized help to cattle producers by developing rations and answering various other production related questions. I am a member of the beefSD leadership team. beefSD is an intensive two-year program for beginning beef producers that covers the scope of the beef industry across SD and the US. The program consists of multiple face to face workshops, case studies of successful producers, out-of-state travel study trips, webinars, and social media interaction. Class 4 began in September 2018. Prime beefSD is a beefSD alumni program that was started in early 2019. This is a webinar based program with individualized interaction from the beefSD leadership team. I am the coordinator for the Cattle Mineral Nutrition for Producers, which is a two-session program providing detailed information about mineral nutrition while equipping producers to collect samples from their operation and develop a mineral program specific to their needs. I complete a ranch visit with each operation to ensure that their individual questions are answered. The program was held in SD in 2017, SD and ND in 2018 and will be held in SD in 2019. Farm Stress Management is a new program area focusing on assisting farmers and ranchers to better manage stress with the current economic situation in agriculture. Annie's Project is a 6-week risk management program for women in agriculture.
