Whether you’re amplifying your studies in nutrition or human development or building on a secondary education career, SDSU’s Master of Science Human Sciences - Family & Consumer Sciences Education Specialization online graduate program is ideal for working educators and extension officers, as well as uncertified teachers.

Classroom technique is the key—that’s what SDSU can provide to give educators a boost in methods and curricula. Coursework includes effective teaching skills, the history and philosophy of family and consumer sciences, adolescent psychology and applied practicum.

Depending on your undergraduate degree*, you’ll be outfitted with a plan to set you toward a licensed, certified Master’s.

*For SD Licensure you must complete the FCSE endorsement of 20 credits, pass the PRAXIS exams and complete the Indians of North America requirement.  24:15:06:42. 7-12 family and consumer science education endorsement program. A 7-12 family and consumer science education endorsement program requires the passage of the designated state test and 20 semester hours of coursework, which include: six semester hours in nutrition and wellness, six semester hours in consumer and resource management, three semester hours in human development, three semester hours in family studies, and two semester hours of career and technical education preparation.  Requirements for licensure vary by state. Assistance will be provided to candidates in contacting the licensing authority in their home states and understanding the requirements for licensure prior to completion of the South Dakota State University program.
