July 8th-11th, 2018
(opens in early 2018)
Limited to the first 30 campers!
Hosted at South Dakota State University (SDSU) every July, this four-day camp provides high school-aged students the opportunity to get an early start on aviation careers. At the camp, students will learn about the fundamentals of flight, get behind the controls of an aircraft, build and launch model rockets, look into the workings of a jet engine, explore an F-16 fighter jet, and visit with aviation professionals. This particular ACE Camp focuses more on aviation, but does touch on aerospace activities.
ACE Camp enables students to make informed decisions as they consider college and career options. Having completed the program, students are more knowledgeable about the importance and diversity of aviation careers, how aviation and aerospace industries have developed and grown to what they are today, and are aware of future career opportunities and developments.
Tuition is $350 (this includes a nonrefundable $50 application deposit to guarantee placement in the camp). Partial tuition assistance is available for those that qualify, please see the application for specific information.
Students are responsible for transportation to and from camp. All meals, activities, housing, and transportation are provided while at camp. All students are required to stay on campus. If you are outside of driving distance and plan to fly in, please let the camp director know that before you register.
Young women, minorities and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Hosted every year since 1992, SDSU through the Space Grant Consortium and the SD Aeronautics Commission continues to support the ACE Camp. Support from numerous other sponsors provides an experience for high school students who want to learn firsthand about aviation and related careers. Actual flying time and tours of scientific facilities include discussions with professionals and experts in the diverse fields are all part of the experience. Since its inception, students from many states and other countries have attended ACE Camp. Students participating in ACE Camp are given a chance to learn about aviation and meet new friends with similar interests. Additionally, ACE Camp gives students entering grades nine through twelve an inside look at possible careers and the education needed to pursue them.
